EMESS
Ars Gratia Artist
Emess’ new artist portrait series “Ars Gratia Artist” focuses on artists – well-known artists whose lives can serve as inspiration and identification models for developing one’s own alternative life plan. For hardly any other medium still offers the possibility of realising autonomous ideas of life as art does – for art is not only created for its own sake but is above all bound to the development and life path of each artist, which is rarely easy or straightforward.
By modifying the well-known art credo “Ars Gratia Artis”, Emess wants to direct the focus on the producer, whose life plan can serve as a “pattern” when one sets out to shape one’s own life. After all, Beuys, Ai Wei Wei or Andy Warhol are only routine artist colleagues from whose horizon of experience one can “cut off a piece” here and there – we guess that is why they are hand sprayed on vintage sewing patterns.
