Danny Gretscher
Abstract painting
It is as difficult to escape the magic of Danny Gretscher’s painting as it is to describe it. In largeformat, abstract works, Gretscher devotes himself to a subject that is completely ethereal, immediate and intangible:
“Impulses visit me from the depths of the universe, in the form of feelings. I then put a coloured
garment on these feelings, sometimes a few strokes are enough and suddenly they are visible.”
Gretscher’s works contain their own vocabulary, a constellation of symbols, signs and apparent allegories that describe an entirely original world that at the same time reveals an often subtle, sometimes strong refraction of our own. Danny Gretscher was born in Jena in 1977 and when he finally emigrated in 1989, he had long been part of urban art culture worldwide. After completing his bachelor’s degree at the Stuttgart University of Graphic Design & Communication, Gretscher moved to Berlin and has been living and working between Berlin and Perth, Australia.e, painting and graffiti since 2004, relaxing an electrifying network of multilayered allusions and associations.
Born in Jena, East Germany, in 1977, Gretscher emigrated to West Germany in 1989, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Graphic Arts and Communication in Stuttgart in 1999.
